Mwanawa has provided Case Management services through Consumer Services, Inc. and Hope Network, in Troy, MI. She has coordinated services for foster Care Children and displaced youth at Youth Villages, in Memphis, TN, as a Foster Care Counselor. Mwanawa has serviced Wayne County as a Family Reunification Program Team Leader. During her internship for her Master’s program, She provided supervised psycho-educational and counseling services to the homeless population at The Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Mwanawa’s diverse background has equipped her to serve Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children, Mentally Ill adults, and their families. She is also equipped to serve wards of the state and homebound children in the Child Welfare System. Mwanawa is able to meet the diverse needs of the homeless population and families from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Mwanawa has acquired knowledge throughout her counseling experience and social service career of how to link families to community resources and coordinate services with other social service agencies.

Mwanawa has provided mental health services for several years in multiple facets. She has provided emergent services to individuals in crisis during her employment as a Mobile Crisis Stabilization Team member and Crisis Services Professional with Washtenaw Community Mental Health. Services have been rendered as an advocate/liaison for community services with individuals who have intense mental health needs, such as Inpatient psychiatric screenings and mental health status recommendations within an interdisciplinary medical team setting. Mwanawa has provided outpatient therapeutic services to children and families within the community and private practice settings.
